INSULATED WATER COOLER Type IWC 3000/12

DESCRIPTION

During the course of recent years the development of electronics power components has made necessary to dissipate larger quantities of thermal heat at lower values of junction temperatures in order to increase their operating life. Furthermore, for some applications, there is the need to electrically insulate the heat sink from the components at operating voltage values up to 3.000 volts.

Up to now, the cooling of such semiconductors, when used in severe enviromental conditions, was obtained with excellent   results by means of  FREON type cooling fluids. However, as a consequence of the recent and well known international legislation that prohibits the use of these substances, it has been mandatory to find other families of non contaminant  fluids. Water for instance, is the best cooling known fluid that can be used in almost any application except in those where the electrical insulation is required, unless to accept a severe cost penalisation due to the need of adding a sophisticated water demineralising circuit.

As an answer to all of these problems,   BTM has designed and developed  a new family of insulated water coolers whose main characteristic is represented by the electrical insulation of the cooling circuit from the electronic component.  The electrical  insulation is obtained by flowing the a normal cooling water, thus not demineralised and/or deionised,  inside ceramic pipes which in turn are housed in the metal plate on which the power components are assembled.

The dimensions  of  the cooler  shown in this Data Sheet,   are suitable to accept  GTO components  with  dissipating   power up to 3.000  W on both sides (1.500 + 1.500), with a contact area up to  a diameter of  100 mm.
